We had a lot of fun completing our candy heart
experiment! We had three liquids (water, soda, and vinegar) and we explored
what happened to the candy when they went into the different types of liquid.
We realized that we could use our senses (like
smell and touch) to differentiate the liquids even those they all looked the
same. We noticed that water is clear and has no odor, soda has no odor but has
bubbles if you touch it, and vinegar has a strong odor (one student compared it
to laundry detergent).
What we learned: The type of liquid matters when
dissolving candy. Vinegar is the best at dissolving the candy hearts because it
is an acidic liquid. Since vinegar is acidic, it dissolved the candy faster
than the soda (a sugary drink) and water.
